A cat cave is an enclosed bed with a single opening: a dome of felt, wool or knit, or a small tent. It gives your cat what a cardboard box does, warmth, walls and a view of the door, in a form you are happy to leave in the living room.

Felt, wool or knit?

Do cats really use cat caves?

Most cats do, especially shy, anxious or senior cats and cats who like to sleep curled up. Place the cave somewhere quiet in a room you use, add a familiar blanket or a few treats inside, and give your cat a few days to adopt it.

What size cat cave do I need?

Check your cat's weight against each size. Merino Cocoon: M up to 12 lbs / 5.5 kg, L up to 20 lbs / 9 kg. Pebble: M up to 8.8 lbs / 4 kg, L up to 17.6 lbs / 8 kg. Chunky Knit Cocoon: diameters from 11.8 to 19.7 in / 30 to 50 cm. Between two sizes, size up.

How do I wash a felt or wool cat cave?

Hand wash in cold water with a wool-safe detergent, press the water out without wringing, reshape while damp and air dry flat. Do not machine wash or tumble dry. What is the difference between merino wool felt and regular felt?

The Merino Cocoon is felted from 100% merino wool: natural, warm and breathable. The Pebble uses a high-density eco felt that resists scratching and pilling and unzips for cleaning. Both hold their dome shape.

Will my cat scratch the cave?

Some cats knead or scratch the outside. Dense felt stands up to claws better than a loose knit. Place a sisal scratcher next to the cave to give your cat a better target.

Can a large cat fit in a cat cave?

Yes, with the right size: the Merino Cocoon L takes cats up to 20 lbs / 9 kg. For bigger cats or two cats together, a teepee is roomier: the Nomad Nook L holds up to 26 lbs / 12 kg.
