Solid wood does not flex, warp or delaminate under repeated load and impact the way particleboard and MDF do. A solid wood cat tree that wobbles on day one will wobble forever — a solid wood piece that is stable on day one stays stable for years. Solid wood also holds screws and hardware significantly better, which matters for wall-mounted pieces.

Yes — natural sisal is tougher, longer-lasting and more satisfying for cats to scratch than carpet. Carpet fibers catch and pull claws rather than allowing a clean scratch. Sisal frays on the surface while remaining structurally intact, creating a texture cats actively prefer. It also does not shed the way carpet does.

Yes — solid wood, sisal, jute, rattan and bamboo are all renewable natural materials. None of our wood-and-sisal pieces use synthetic carpet, foam padding made from petrochemicals, or MDF which off-gasses formaldehyde. Natural materials are also biodegradable at end of life.

With normal use, solid wood cat furniture lasts 5 to 10 years or more. Sisal scratching surfaces typically last 6 to 12 months of daily scratching before needing replacement — on most pieces, the sisal post can be rewrapped rather than replacing the full unit.

Most solid wood pieces in this collection are rated for cats up to 33 lbs (15kg). The Cubby Gym, Sequoia Lodge and Lotus Tower 2 are among the most structurally robust options for large breeds. Check individual product pages for exact weight ratings.

Minimal — wipe with a lightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Avoid prolonged moisture exposure on joints. Sisal posts require no maintenance until worn — at that point, rewrap or replace the post rather than the full piece. Cushion covers are removable and machine washable on a gentle cycle.
